Description
My research uses mind uploading as an exemplar for hypothetical future neurotechnology and contributes new data to an under researched field. To encourage participants to connect with mind uploading, I designed a novel data collection tool and method - a website that tells the stories of two fictional mind uploaded characters.

Legal and ethical issues
Copyright law had to be considered since I was using media (Upload and Soma) cre-ated by another. I made use of the University of Nottingham’s exceptions whereby you can copy a ‘fair’ proportion of a work without the prior permission of the copyright owner. These include fair dealing for non-commercial research and private study (Non-commercial; University of Nottingham Fair Dealing). I adhered to the University of Nottingham’s code of research conduct and research ethics throughout which encompass Informed Consent, Confidentiality and Anonymity and Personal and Sensitive Information. Ethical definitions are taken from The Belmont Report, Ethical Principles and Guidelines for the Protection of Human Research Subjects (National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research (NCPHSBBR), 1978). Ethical approval for the storytelling website was approved by the Faculty of Engineering Ethics Committee although specific ethics codes are not part of the process.
