Session 1

Introduction to Career Planning Skills

Welcome to the Career Planning Skills module, Session 1 is an introduction to the world of career planning. To track your personal and career development the module starts with a Skills Audit for you to complete, at the end of the module you will complete the skills audit again and be able to see how you have progressed.

Career Planning is:
  • A strategic process involving self-awareness, research, planning and decision making.
  • It is about finding a direction that is right for you, matching who you are to the life you want to lead.

Have a look at Career Planning by The Open University. Based on the DOTS model this interactive tool has activities and videos to help you start your career planning goals.

DOTS stands for Decision making, Opportunity awareness, Transition Skills and Self-awareness. We are going to look at each area in more detail.
